About the hotel
The Winter Palace has stood on the Luxor Corniche since 1886, a grand Victorian hotel facing the Nile with the Temple of Luxor a short walk away. It was here that the discovery of Tutankhamun's tomb was announced, and the sense of history is everywhere. It suits anyone who loves Egypt's past, whether as part of a Nile cruise, a tour or a few days on its own.
Rooms have high ceilings, and many look over the river. After a morning at Karnak or in the Valley of the Kings, the shaded gardens and the large pool, with a restaurant in its centre, are a welcome retreat. Evenings can be formal at the 1886 restaurant or more relaxed at La Corniche, with a drink at one of the two bars before or after.
