Hôtel des Grands Boulevards is a small, characterful hotel on Boulevard Poissonnière, in the busy 2nd arrondissement with its theatres, covered passages and late-night bistros. The interiors are playful and warm, all curved headboards, stripes and soft colours. It suits couples and solo travellers who want a lively neighbourhood and a hotel with real personality rather than grand formality.
The fifty rooms are compact but cleverly designed, with espresso machines, and look over either the boulevard or a quiet inner courtyard. Breakfast and dinner are served in the glass-roofed restaurant, which has an Italian slant. The Shell bar, with its open fire, is cosy in winter, while in summer The Shed, up on the roof, is the place for cocktails above the city.
